When we first purchased our current home, I had just given birth to our third child and my older two were 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old. We definitely had to call in reinforcements to get some things done around here. No shame. I love DIY too, but sometimes you cannot put a price on time spent with those you love.Erin {Home Everyday}https://www.blogger.com/profile/02237030322755689309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5402262856474472005.post-45355267910077812362012-08-24T14:30:50.442-04:002012-08-24T14:30:50.442-04:00Glad you're getting some help! Best $ ever spent, and a total marriage/sanity saver! They come every other week, and now we have someone who will even change bedsheets and throw a load of sheets and towels in the wash. It's fabulous! I didn't grow up with that kind of help and it seemed really excessive/snobby at first. In reality, it's just not always possible. If you have the financial resources to outsource, go for it! As more babies have entered our nest, our outsourcing has gone up. We still do small projects here and there, but anything that would take more than a day or a weekend has been outsourced and I love it. The job gets done right the first time, the way I want it done, and we can get on with our lives. No frustrating Saturdays of trial and error, running back and forth between home and the hardware store, and we don't have to spend weeks on end stepping around project materials. As for cleaning, I never thought I'd need to hire a cleaning crew either, but we're there too...for the last year or so I have had a gal come in every 4 weeks and it has made a huge difference. Sure, we still clean a LOT between her visits, but her day is the one day a month when our entire house is tidy and clean at the same time and it's lovely. A lawn service after the second. :)

The biggest thing that helped us reclaim time was using our deep freeze and stocking it full of either precooked, or partially prepared foods. I spent a month or so before our second was born making things like meatballs, meatloaf, taco meat, enchiladas, lasagna, marinara, chicken spaghetti, chicken & rice, quiche, muffins, pancakes, waffles, cookie dough, burritos for lunch and breakfast, biscuits, etc. It was a huge lifesaver. You might consider doing that before going back to work so that you don't spend all of your time in the kitchen or money on takeout :)

Congratulations on the baby, and enjoy your time with him. Currently, we're thinking its a good idea to hire out painting our master because it is a HUGE undetaking with loads of space, high celings, trimwork to be caulked and painted, a new wall and french doors that need priming.
