Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm incredibly thankful this Thanksgiving. I'm blessed with an amazing family, a beautiful home, a great job and an incredible husband. Oh and two cute dogs! See, the blessings are never ending : )

I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with as many blessings!

Our Thanksgiving Menu

Thanks so much to all of you for your sweet comments on our simple and sweet Thanksgiving table! Now I'm just ready to fill this bad boy with some amazing food!

In my family, we take food seriously. It's go big or go home! We're big on tradition, so when one of us says "it's not Thanksgiving without ________" we've got to make sure we have that dish! Which kind of turns into about twenty dishes for about ten people. Thank goodness for leftovers, right?

Want to know what's on the menu this year?

I wasn't lying... we've got a LOT of food planned : ) And, of course, it's all done Southern style. Many of the recipes are from either my family or David's family, but I did pull a couple from other sources.

I'll be using Paula Deen's cornbread stuffing recipe, but I plan to add more fresh sage + onions like my great-grandmother used to do. The candied sweet potatoes will come from Betty Crocker (minus the Cheerios... weird!). Oh and of course, we can't forget Paula's famous ooey gooey pumpkin cake recipe (which I frequently tell my family is my own recipe because it always walks away with a lot of love!).

So there you have it! The Thanksgiving table at Ten June. What are you cooking up this year?

Our Thanksgiving Table

Welcome to my very first Thanksgiving table!

All of you should be proud... I've started thawing the turkey, I've done all of the grocery shopping and I've set my table for Thanksgiving! Just call me Suzy Homemaker. Come on, turkey day! I decided to keep the table simple and sweet- many people have told me that even though they're beautiful, one big mistake is to junk up your table with decor, which doesn't leave room for food and for your guests to eat comfortably. So simple and sweet I left it.

I used my everyday dishes (Portmeiron's Sophie Conrad in white and celadon from Macy's) and added the beautiful printed napkins (World Market) and a few natural elements to each place setting in the form of a pumpkin or pine cone. I think they work really well with my natural burlap runner (Target). I decided to save my "give thanks" cinnamon clove pumpkins to dress up the food table. The place cards are free printables from the Handmade Home.

I kept the centerpiece simple with tapered candles (World Market), a mason jar with fall flowers and my late grandfather's turkey gravy boat. Seriously though, how cute is that turkey? : )

We are not a formal bunch when it comes to Thanksgiving, so I think this simple and sweet tablescape will be the perfect setting for my family to give thanks to God for each other, the food and our happy lives.

Speaking of, I'll be back later this week to share the menu for our amazing feast!

Are you ready for turkey day too?

Psst! If you are looking for more Thanksgiving tablescape inspiration, check out Courtney's beautiful table here,  Megan's gorgeous black and gold table here and Courtney's festive plum colored table here! These folks are talented!!

Thanksgiving Printables

Guess what? I bought a turkey yesterday. I had no clue what I was doing as I was wondering around the grocery store (hubs got a few phone calls- which brand do I buy? how big does it need to be? and now how do I carry this heavy 20 lb. turkey around the store?) and I certainly have no clue how I'm going to cook it... but the turkey is a sign that Thanksgiving is almost here (for the first time!) at the Ten June household! : )

While I was doing some creative research for my Thanksgiving table, I ran across so many amazing (and free!) printables out in blogland that I just had to share with my readers. Are you ready for some Thanksgiving cuteness?

I love these super cute table setting printables from Bird's Party Blog.

You've got to head over and check out all of the adorable printables, like this fall-inspired medley of toothpick flags over at Simple As That.

The gals over at eighteen25 created this adorable subway art. I'm in love with the colors!

You could do lots of fun things with these beautiful calligraphy Thanksgiving printables from Silverbox Creative Studio.

There are so many cute things out there! Next week, I'll share what I chose to use to fancy up my Thanksgiving table. If you're interested in any of these printables, make sure you stop by each of these blogs to download and give them a big THANKS for being so awesome and sharing these fabulous pieces with us.

Oh and psssst! Get excited for a big announcement right here on the blog tomorrow....!!

"Give Thanks" Pumpkins

Hello hello! I hope all of you had a fabulous weekend!

I spent all day Saturday in Athens, tailgating and watching the Dawgs kick Auburn's butt.

Yesterday, I did some things around the house and started prepping for next week when David and I are hosting our very first Thanksgiving!

I decided to take the traditional route and use pumpkins as our centerpiece on the table next week, but I wanted to spruce them up a little. I bought whole cinnamon cloves and wrote a little Thanksgiving message by sticking them in the pumpkins.

 After tracing the letters on the pumpkins with a pencil, I used a meat thermometer to poke the holes in the pumpkins before adding the cloves (of course David walked in and asked me if the pumpkins were medium or medium rare, ha). And that's it... really a simple project!

The pumpkins smell incredible. Fresh cinnamon is one of the best fall smells! Until the rest of the dining room table is ready, these guys are hanging out on my mantle in the living room. I am praying that they don't go bad between now and next week! And if they do, my local produce store has the mini pumpkins for 2/$1, so it won't be too hard to recreate for the big turkey day.

Have you done any turkey day prep yet?

Thanksgiving Inspiration

You guys are the best! Thanks so much for all of the sweet comments about my new gallery wall yesterday! Big smiles over here : )

In case you haven't noticed, it's November.

Whaaaaaaaat? I know, I know. Wasn't it just Memorial Day?

But I can't lie... I've already got the itch. The holiday itch! I'm ready for it- the food, the crafts, the gifts, the decorating, the parties, the food... did I mention the food? I'm excited for it all! First up? Thanksgiving. And a very special one over at the Ten June household- it's the first year that David and I will be hosting the family at our house! Big stuff.

Last year, we opted out of the traditional holiday celebrations and took a little road trip out west to Seattle, Vancouver, the Oregon coast/Redwood Forest/northern California/wine country and San Francisco. It was a fabulous time, but we're excited to take the traditional route this year.

Needless to say, I've been searching, bookmarking, pinning and ripping out pages of magazines in order to gather all kinds of Thanksgiving inspiration. And even though I didn't host Thanksgiving last year, I'm even looking back to my own blog for inspiration! While I was out of town last Thanksgiving, I had five amazing bloggers post on some of their favorite Thanksgiving things. I've been looking back on them and just had to reshare with you guys- their stuff is incredible!

Megan from Honey We're Home created a beautiful Thanksgiving table you can read about here.

Courtney from A Thoughtful Place set up an adorable Thanksgiving entryway (and shares a free Thanksgiving printable!) which you can see here.

Cassie from Hi Sugarplum crafted some DIY burlap vases similar to the Ballard Design version... but a heck of a lot cheaper! You can read her tutorial here.

Ashley from Lemon and Lavender shared some Thanksgiving tablescape inspiration and an amazing recipe for chocolate pumpkin bread (from her grandma!) that you can read here.

And my sweet friend Lauren, who no longer has a blog, shared another gorgeous, rustic tablescape that you can learn to create on your own here.

See what I mean? These ladies delivered when it comes to Thanksgiving inspiration! Be sure to head over and check out each of these guest posts and each of their blogs... be prepared to be amazed : )

Where are you pulling Thanksgiving inspiration from?

Thanksgiving Guest Post: Burns House

Hi there! I’m Lauren from {burns house}. Thanks for joining me today!

Can I be totally honest with you?

{I’m not a Thanksgiving decorator}

Though we do get together, Thanksgiving really isn’t a big deal in our family. So, when Michelle contacted me about doing a guest post, I was a little nervous. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around, I’ve usually been singing Christmas carols for two weeks!

But, I decided to challenge myself.

I don’t think fall has to mean orange, red, and gold. So this year, I decorated for fall very differently than I have in the past. Using a cream, brown, and silvery blue color palate, I made it my mission to embrace all things nontraditional this season.

Here is how I’ve translated this into a Thanksgiving tablescape…

First, shop your house and find various objects you want to include in your setting. Everything I used for this tablescape I already had!

Then, set it up!

Here are some of my details…

{kraft paper placemats for easy cleanup}

 {flatware tied with twine and a silver-painted pumpkin make pretty place settings}

{unify adjacent areas with similar accessories and styling}

 {fall is more than than pumpkins & leaves. bring nature indoors with pinecones and grapevine accessories}

{make a thankful tree for the season. write what you are thankful for on bookpage leaves and hang them from branches from your yard for a fast, free, and meaningful display}

Now, I realize that most of you probably have a much larger space for hosting holiday get-togethers, but these ideas can easily be adapted to fit your space!

{scale your decorations to match your area. a large centerpiece would take up too much room on our small dining table, so I chose smaller decorative accents}

Just because the holidays are all about traditions, it doesn’t mean that you can’t mix things up a bit in your décor! I encourage you to make a change, no matter how big or small, in how you decorate this holiday season.

And you may just find you make a {new} tradition this year :)

Thanksgiving Guest Post: Hi Sugarplum!

Hi smart readers of Ten June! (You read this blog, don't you?! That classifies you as smart!) It's Cassie from Hi Sugarplum! Michelle is so sweet and I love her blog! (Does that mean I'm smart too?!) She and I share an affinity for striped walls, Jcrew and all things pumpkin. I was thrilled when she asked to share this post with you, hope you enjoy it and Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't know about you, but when I get a home decor catalog in the mail I'm not typically looking through it for things to buy. I'm looking for ideas, inspiration, and better yet, stuff I can make for cheap less! Suzanne Kasler is a celebrated interior designer...and Ballard Designs teamed up with her for a collection of home accessories. I love what she created, but one thing in particular stood out as a "Oh yeah, I could totally make that!!'

Behold the Burlap Vase....with a $49 price tag:

I love the warm texture of the burlap against the cool sleek glass. And sure enough, the Dollar Store sells a vase in a very similar shape:

I started with a swatch of burlap I had leftover from this project. Cut a piece about 2-inches taller and longer than what you need for your vase, then iron the two long edges down to create a 'hem':

I used hot glue for this project, but if you value your fingerprints, you might want to try fabric glue instead (burlap has large openings through which the piping hot glue passes when you press down!). After gluing down the two long sides, create a 'hem' on one of the short sides:

Run a line of glue along the edge of the other end of the burlap, then press the vase down on the fabric (this is the only place glue touches the vase):

Slowly roll the vase, wrapping the burlap as you go (no gluing necessary). Run another line of glue along the 'hemmed' end and press it down.

Wha-La....Burlap vase!

I filled one with stems, and another with my $1 candle....how do you think they compare?
