This weekend, David and I spent a lot of time in the yard. With good reason. It was a jungle. Between the recent tornado/storm weather Georgia has had and our recent jaunts around the world, our yard has been low on the priority list. And you know I always keep it real here at Ten June, so here goes nothing.
Let's just take a walk through the madness.
My front trainwreck patio.
Our grass seed has a-bloomed. Like woah.
Oh hello, weeds.
Just call our yard Weeds McGee.
Still jealous of our peonies?
After about six hours of David and I working with our hands in the dirt all day Saturday, it's looking a little bit cleaner in the yard these days! I still want to put down mulch in all of the beds, but at least there's no more Weeds McGee.
I wrapped my peony bushes in tomato cages- previously, the blooms were so heavy that they drooped and fell off. Now they're standing tall and proud. And gorg.
The only thing we didn't trim is the hydrangea bush. It's kind of monstrous, but I'm afraid to cut the blooms back for fear of losing the almost-flower buds. Any experts out there with advice?
As you can see, we've still got to get our pool opened for the season. And it's got to be done sooner than later, because we're hosting a big Memorial Day party at our house! We've also got to finish planting our vegetable/flower garden. So far we've got three different kinds of tomatoes, sweet peppers and lavender in the ground- I'll share more details on the garden later!
In an interesting turn of events, I'm no longer embarrassed to get out of my car if a neighbor is walking by. It's kind of weird how the lack of knee-high grass puts a little spring in my step! ; )

We've got lots of yard work to do too! Your yard is looking great. Hard work, but so rewarding.

Lookin good girl! And yes, still jealous of your peonies :) Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love y'all walkways, pavers, and planting areas. Awesome super-grass. Don't mess with the hydrangea. Some say you can get a 2nd bloom if you trim the first blooms. We're to lazy to find out.
ReplyDeleteRight now our Atlanta yard is showing us who's boss. We're doing Terry-turf and zero-scaping (as opposed to xeriscaping). We'd never pass landscape inspection except that our street has low standards.
Hydrangea bush envy! My grandmother always had a bountiful bush outside her front door. Sweet memory of beautiful welcome. My heart goes out to you for all the winds and storms you - and yard - have weathered. But the sun looks bright and the grass green. Blessings to you. ~CJ
ReplyDeleteWe do all our own yard work too so I know how much work you guys accomplished this weekend. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWe did yard work over the weekend too. I used the word jungle to describe our side garden that always needs lots of attention in Spring, and especially this year after interesting winter weather. I'm not complaining, though. That extra moisture really made our gardens grow!
ReplyDeleteI would leave the hydrangea as is. We have hydrangea we don't trim and they do great. Trimming hydrangea is judged by which particular hydrangea you have. Our endless summers are never trimmed. However, we put in an oakleaf Saturday. This one is a new one for us, so I'll have to do a little research.
Your lawn is fabulous...very lush.
Looks like you have a great yard. Yes, I'll still jealous of your peonies!
ReplyDeleteLooking fabulous! Kudos to you and the hubby for doing it all yourself!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a little rain----Okay, I mean---tornadoes and heavy rain can do for grass seed. Your yard is beautiful. Despite the bad weather, something good has come out of it--green, green, lush yards! Love your peonies! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness... that makes me tired just seeing it. lawn work was my least favorite part of owning a home! tyler and i say that we may forever rent in order to avoid it now. :) but you are right- when it looks good and clean, there is nothing better!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, where do all these weeds in Atlanta come from??? It's endless!! I'm jealous of your grass. Our bermuda up front is fine, but we can't get anything to grow out back! I'm with Terry...don't cut your hydrangea just yet. They bloom off old wood, so you might not get a second bloom. I'd wait and cut back in the fall.
ReplyDeleteyard work is never ending....love your grass! I long for grass like that, we have a lot of rocks and that makes it so hard to grow grass. Your yard is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDon't cut the hydrangea! Let them bloom and then you can "dead head" or prune the old blooms. The dried, old blooms also make for some good dried flower projects.
ReplyDeleteyour hydrangeas and peonies are so pretty! everything is looking great, and you are making some nice clean starting points!
ReplyDeleteI love your hydrangea! Don't you love how it feels to look at your yard after all your hard work? We started our spring yard work back in March so we could finish before the hot weather arrives. Well, it's here...90 degrees today!
ReplyDeleteYay for gardening! It's not a train wreck anymore! That must have been a disaster with the tornado weather. I love that pink bush. I think a pool party is in order this summer (:
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous. Yard work seems to be never ending. Especially this time of year, with so much weeding, planting, mulching, and staking up that needs to be done. But the results are so worth it. Can't wait to see your garden progress
ReplyDeleteI love your yard! I even love the before pictures, haha. It's because my yard has only grass -- there is no landscaping. =( But after seeing your gorgeous yard I feel inspired to do work. =)
ReplyDeleteGosh I am SOOO excited to finally get to work on our yard...front and back. Unfortunately, we get snow today...really?! Ridic. But your garden looks amazing and lush...especially those hydrangeas! :)
ReplyDeletenice job on the clean up!!! Takes a long time (we're in the process), but what a difference it makes!
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks amazing!! I need one of those hydrangea bushes, those are my favorites! :) Hope you're doing well Michelle!
ReplyDeleteWhen can I move in? :) hehe I called you TWICE this weekend girlfriend! Come onnnnnnn haha xoxo
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't get a notice from the HOA telling you to clean up your weeds :/ haha!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, looks good! You don't have to, but if you want to prune your hydrangeas, do It after the blooms fade, and before July 4. There are many types, so you might check walterreeves.com (garden guy on radio Saturday mornings). Have fun! Lea
ReplyDeleteYard work is so hard but rewarding! I always like the feeling of getting all dirty and then showering. Must be the kid in me! Your hydrangea bush is going to be amazing. Don't cut it back until after the blooms have faded!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful clean up!! Looks like you're ready for summer picnics and grilling!! oh, and sunbathing, of course!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are on an house improvement role. We should seriously get HGTV in there!
ReplyDeleteYou glammed it up fabulously! =) I cant wait til I have my own home and yard someday! its just not as fun sprucing up my landlords! ;) We do mow it though... begrugingly!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear all about your future garden!! =) I started mine a few weeks ago and i'm getting blooms -- which mean veggies next! ahhh I can hardly wait!
Hope you had a great day girl! mwah!

It's looking good! We are in the middle of landscaping. I have decided I really dislike figuring out what plants/flowers to use and where to put them. You hydrangeas are amazing! And peonies -- just lovely! Since it's about 150 degrees here, we are totally limited! But we are getting a meyer lemon tree, which I am super pumped about!
ReplyDeleteI want your yard!!! It's looks great!
ReplyDeleteWow1 Lots of work but it really is looking good. love those peonies!
ReplyDeleteCleaning up the gardens always takes so much time around here too. The winter puts a beaten on them!
Weeds McGee has a cousin in Tennessee, lucky for me, the hubs fixed it all Sundee so now you can rock on the porch and enjoy the trees, bumble bees, and hills of the country....yep, going to bed now- it just got embarrassing. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour yard is looking fabulous. I wish it was mine!

ReplyDeleteYour yard is looking good. Hard work really pays off! Lovely peonies and hydrangeas.
ReplyDeleteSO jealz of your peonies. I planted a bush 3 years ago...it still looks like charlie brown's christmas tree. awesome
ReplyDeletei cut a hydrangea bush once and it didn't bloom for the next few years. i like them big and out of control.
