Is Twitter the New MySpace?

Remember MySpace? It was probably my first attempt at social media... I would spend hours dolling up my page with a hawt selfie pic like the above (you like that? I took that just for ya'll, to recreate the fabulousness that was the MySpace selfie) and setting up my favorite music to play. I think my page was set on "I'm Slim Shady" for quite some time. You know me, the original gangsta. Holla.

But then came Facebook. I remember when it was only open to college kids (thank goodness I was a senior before it hit our school... my early college years did not need to be documented on the WWW) and eventually expanded to the rest of the world. As quickly as Facebook appeared, MySpace disappeared. With the cooler, easier, photo-friendly Facebook around, no one needed the ol' MySpace girl.

Lately, I've been feeling the same way about Twitter. I still log onto my Twitter account here and there, but lately I've been going straight to Instagram (cc: tenjuneblog) instead. For some reason, I just feel more of a connection with the world when I'm on IG versus Twitter. For example, when I ask questions on Twitter, I don't get much response from you peeps. But if I ask the same question on IG (with a fab picture, of course), I get all kinds of responses! It also seems like so many of you are updating your IG feeds a lot more regularly than your Twitter accounts. It feels like the go-to social media right now.

So, tell me, is Twitter becoming a thing of the past? Is it just me, or is Twitter becoming the new MySpace?

  2. Ugh, I confess I'm so over Twitter! Like you I love the image sharing on IG, but Twitter is words words words streaming.... wondering if others will feel the same soon and if we'll see the use of it decline over time.....

  3. I was a freshman when Facebook started, so my entire college experience is documented out there...

  4. I could not agree more!!! Though I was never a big Twitter girl...but I LOVE instagram! It just clicks with me {I think it's b/c I'm more visual}. But I love catching up on the feed and seeing what everyone is up to! Of course, 90% of my feed is of little bambinos like Baby H!! ;)

  5. I could never get into Twitter but IG has been growing on me. Everything is so visually driven these days, I think it's just another way to stay connected and share through pics...kind of like FB, like you said! So, for me, I'm IG all the way. Sorry, Twitter.

  6. I'm a more recent adopter of Twitter, so I'm still there quite a bit (@goofymonkeys) and I'm rarely on Instagram. Maybe that will shift over time. Who knows!

  7. I never understood Twitter! I don't want to read through a bazillion status updates. I just wanna see pictures, people!! :)

  8. Well, let's face it: Your peeps are VISUAL people and IG feeds that. And you know, a picture speaks a thousand words or something like that. :) I'm terrible at Twitter and not so hot at Instagram, BUT, I, too, get more interaction on IG.

  9. LOVE instagram for personal connection, LOVE twitter for business connection. I have met, like in person met, so many great designers and people in my industry as an interior Designer, through twitter. If I HAD to pick which one I use more it would be IG...not ready to stop chirping though..

  10. I love IG!! Sometimes I hate to post photos because I do not feel that they are "artsy" enough haha. However I have mastered the art of taking a "selfie" in the mirror! The only thing about twitter are they anonymous accounts for example...@charmofthesouth 55K followers and no one knows what he looks like or his name. Weird.

  11. I love follwing you and HDawg (hehe!) on Instagram, Michelle (brandidreams). I do very much love Instagram because I'm a visual person but I love Twitter too! Sometimes I want to make a random statement, just for the heck of it (haha), and have no picture to associate with it and Twitter is great for that. I can no longer deal with Facebook anymore though; it is completely out of my system!

  12. I have never been able to get into Twitter but have been using IG (@prettyposy) for a while and it's pretty much replaced FB as my go to social media now!

  13. I just joined Twitter and its not as exciting as I thought it would be

  14. I have joined twitter to follow others, but I very, very rarely tweet myself. I think I would be more likely to use it if more than just two of my friends used it....Why tweet when you have no one to read your tweets??

  15. I totally agree. It's like you read my mind. I feel much more engaged with Instagram and get more response from others.

Although I also fear that my blog is getting the short end f the stick because of Instagram, too. It's just so much easier to share short moments and stories that may have made the blog in the past.

  16. I feel the same way!! Me and Instagram are best buds! Seeing what people are doing or thinking in addition to reading about it is more appealing to me and to most people I think.

  17. I'm with Kim. Instagram is ruining my blog. :P I'm over twitter.

  18. I use twitter for getting a jump on the news, more specifically politics or sports like NHL trades. I auto post a tweet every time we publish a post, but it doesn't drive much traffic my way and I rarely use it.

I like IG for connecting with blog friends. It's much more personal. I have to be careful though or I'll spend all day on it.

  19. You hit the nail on the head! Totally agree. Love this!! HA...oh myspace. Uh oh, that reminds me...my account is still active, although I haven't been on for years!

  20. Agreed! Also, I never really "got" twitter. I have an account and occasionally post something, but I guess I don't get how to interact on there - I feel like the only way for it to work is if you're on there constantly, otherwise you totally miss people's tweets.
IG is definitely my go to app for when I have a few minutes of downtime.

  21. so funny - I was just talking to a friend of mine about this very thing - i totally agree - I'm never really on twitter much anymore - insta is so much more fun!

  23. My students would beg to differ! Haha! In my world though, IG is where it's at. ;-)

  24. Agreed! I feel like I follow so many people on Twitter and reading just words is hard to browse quickly. Sometimes even my own husband is like "did you see that link I tweeted?" Nope, my feed jumps 25 tweets because I follow too many people. At least on Instagram I can check it more often since browsing pictures is less time consuming than reading!

  25. Funny to come across this post because lately I've been getting tired of Facebook (never did MySpace), I'd rather do Twitter (sometimes) and I just recently started using IG. I was always hesitant about them all even blogging and although I have obviously warmed up to them I still wonder, worry or get worn out. Make sense? :)
