Guest Bathroom Makeover: The Final Before & After

Hi friends! Hope your weekend was fabulous.

As you all know, David and I are selling our house. Fingers crossed, it should go on the market at some point early this week. As one of our many "before we list" projects, we decided to do a little makeover of our guest bathroom. Basically, the goal was to take it from dramatic + dark to light, neutral and bright.

So without further ado... our new guest bathroom!

We bought a new mirror and sconces for a total of $50 (more details here) and hope to sell the old fixtures on Craigslist, so we'll actually make some cash!

In case you missed it, check out what went into the great shower curtain debate. More details below!

Oh, that purple ceiling. Mad props to David for repainting it!

As you can see, I chose the classic white waffle shower curtain. You guys were amazing at weighing in with your two cents about the curtain! So thanks again! The final vote tally from you guys was four votes for the striped curtain, thirty-six votes for the white waffle and forty-three votes for the patterned curtain. And I'm not gonna lie, I was totally going to choose the last patterned option, just like the majority of you. I was really scared the bright white waffle curtain would make the rest of the cream colored trim look blah. But our realtor thought it was too busy with the patterned wallpaper, so we opted to keep it simple with the white waffle. And I actually think it really works! No blah, just fab ; )

But guess what room doesn't have patterned wallpaper and also needed a shower curtain? Our master bathroom! Woot woot. Pretty little bird curtain got to stay at our casa.

So there you have it, friends. Our little guest bathroom makeover. With $50 in new fixtures, plus about $30 in paint for the ceiling and $20 for the shower curtain, the entire project ran us right at $100. I think it's definitely a good investment! We actually really like it. And hopefully you guys love it... but hopefully the potential buyers love it even more! : )

  9. Thanks everyone!

Melissa- there's no method to my madness about tucking the shower curtain. Honestly, the custom curtain that was in the room before was so long, so we could take it up to the ceiling... which looks great in my opinion (always hang curtains high + wide, right?!). But this little guy was so much shorter that I hung it as high as I could and just tucked the rest into the tub. It looked better to me that way since there was so little hanging down over the tub with the way I hung it. Like I said, no method to my madness at all! : )

    1. Perfect! I thought maybe you were starting a new trend-Hee Hee :))

By the way, your master shower is my absolute favorite bc I have a VERY similar layout in my master bath. I am going to copy your shower this summer! It is by far the ONLY inspiration photo I have found that is 100% my taste, so thank you! We live in SC in a 1980's ranch and if we were moving to your town, I would love to buy your house! You have impeccable taste!

  12. Looks LIGHT YEARS better! Isn't it great how little changes can make such a difference? Potential buyers will love how bright and inviting it is. It's just begging them to hop in and try the shower out, since you're out driving around the neighborhood for 45 minutes killing time anyway... ;) Showing houses sucks, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that the first weirdo to jump in your shower buys the place. :)

(So glad you got to keep the cute bird print curtain!)

  25. Looks great girl!!! And do you know what would be fab!?!?! (don't you love unsolicited advice?!) If you got another bird shower curtain for your shower...so it'd be thick and pleated when closed, and you could open them like drapes on either side? Really showcase how wide and gorgeous that shower is. Love that shower curtain!

  27. I agree with Melissa, except I would treat them as "drapery panels" and have them on each side of the shower. That way you get to keep your great daylight from the window--the window looks like it has a treatment on it, and you get even more pattern and color in there!

Check out my blog-- I just updated my powder room too! www.whitneybrock.blogspot.com
