Field Trip: Ikea

Hello hello! Are we all stuffed and happy from Easter bunny basket loot?! I hope y'all had a great weekend with your friends and family. I know we did! I cooked up some "bunny butt" cupcakes that I found on Pinterest... and have since eaten about half the batch. Too cute to resist.

On Friday, I was lucky enough to have the day off. So after lunching with a hot date (David!), I headed over to spend the afternoon at Ikea. Ah, love that place.

I snapped a few iPhone pics of some of my favorite new (or at least new to me!) items they had. You know me, have to share the good deals with my blog friends!

I'm eyeing this dresser for baby boy's nursery as a changing table. I need to do some research about how large the surface area should be for a changing pad (feel free to weigh in!), but it seemed like this would be a good fit. Anyone have a dresser from Ikea that they like?

This daybed is perfection! Would be so cute in a kids room or small guest bedroom space.

Absolutely loved the shape of this side table. So fun! It only came in black, but could easily be painted white or a fun color with my laminate furniture painting tutorial.

A few more cute side tables. Ikea is really stepping up their game with their traditional styles!

Love this shelving unit. I need to find a wall for one in my house....

Pretty white + glass side table.

I'm head over heels for this glass cabinet bookshelf. It comes in yellow and green... and is to die for. So cute!

Loved these linen covered storage boxes even more when I found the gingham print inside!

Can't get enough of their inventive solutions for small spaces, like this dish area.

Just in time for spring, they've got some great outdoor furniture.

While it's certainly a new piece of Ikea furniture, they really did a good job with this "weathered, antique" console. I really like the look of it!

I love this dining set. I really just want a few of those chairs but they're not sold separately!

I think our little man needs a swing in his room, don't you? So cool!

They had lots of fun serving trays to choose from.

As you guys know (because they inhabit my bedroom, kitchen and dining room!) Ikea's flat weave rug selection is my favorite. These little guys would be so cute in a kids room and were so cheap! Can't beat it.

A cute spring time throw.

Colorful pillows... I could see a few of these on my back porch this summer!

I love their pillow cases as well.

So what did I walk away with? I stocked up on several of their $7 down feather pillow inserts, which are always great to have. I also grabbed one of these fun spring tablecloths. Once I set up a spring table I'll be sure to share.
And, finally, I stocked up on a few fun goodies for baby boy's room! So exciting : ) I have a bunch of projects to complete in there before I start sharing, but here's a sneak peek.

Oooooh, ahhhhhh.

So tell me, do you love Ikea as much as this girl?

PS. Ikea didn't ask me to write about my trip... I just kind of love them and decided to share on my own. No affiliation whatsoever! Except I love their meatballs. Send me free meatballs, Ikea!

  5. AHH! I need to head to ATL and go back to IKEA. :) Love that dresser----have no idea about sizes necessary for a changing table, but it sounds like a great idea to me. Can't wait for the moms to weigh in and see if it works. Also love the linen basket. I am a sucker for storage.

  6. We've been totally on the same page with this baby stuff, we just bought a Hemnes dresser for our nursery to use as a changing table! We got the big one though, with the 8 drawers, in white. Mike's going to finish assembling it hopefully today, but it is ginormous for the changing pad. I plan on putting some other things on there to balance it, but if you're simply putting a changing pad I would think the small dresser is fine!

  7. Hmmmm. You've got me all sorts of excited to do me some IKEA shopping! Our IKEA is a good hour away from my house...however, it just so happens that I am heading down that direction today to visit a friend. Maybe I'll have to carve myself out some time to make a quick stop at IKEA.... :)

    $25/ piece I think!

  12. I have that same Hemnes three drawer dresser except in the brownish gray color they offer. My husband and I LOVE it!! I'm not sure about how big changing table pads are supposed to be but I know the top of this dresser seems pretty big. Definitely can't go wrong though, great choice in a dresser!

  13. I love IKEA. I've only been once. We needed to buy a couch because the futon we were using was killing my back. We ended up buying the Ektrop loveseat. The best part is we found one in the sale section. It was already put together and out of the box. We just had to buy a slip-cover separately. We ended up saving $100. I love my loveseat. Can't wait to go back again. Sadly it is an hour to and hour and a half away.

  14. Hi! I have the Hemnes 8-drawer dresser in my nursery, and our changing pad fits perfectly. My little ones are four months old now, and we have loved the dresser -- tons of storage space in the drawers and plenty of room on top for the changing pad plus a basket of diapers, wipes, etc. It's also a great height for changing diapers -- everyone from my 5'2" mom to my 6'4" husband is happy with it. Congrats, by the way. I can't wait to see what you do with the nursery!

  15. Fun! I love the throw--I didn't see that one on Saturday. IKEA trips are my fave...we live about 30-40 minutes south of the DC one. It's one of my favorite places to go for a morning.

Love the dresser. My personal preference is to have a dresser-top long enough for the changing pad AND a small tray/bucket/basket for wipes, diapers, lotion, comb/brush, and ointment. It's a pain in the rear to have to strap the baby down or hold him/her down with one hand while your free hand searches around for diaper changing stuff or after-bath stuff.

  17. I'm getting the Hemnes 8-drawer dresser for the nursery too! My sister got the 3-drawer one and she says that the changing pad fits, but you'll want an extra table or ledge nearby to hold all the accoutrements (diapers, wipes, cream, etc). She ended up having to buy a separate little nightstand to hold that stuff so her advice was: if you would rather have it all fit on one table, get the larger dresser. Hope that helps!

  18. The meatballs are really good, you're right! The hemnes dresser would be great as a changing table and I love the gingham fabric you picked up, can't wait to see what you'll do with it!

  19. I love the things you found at Ikea. I'm hoping to get up there soon and cant wait to see the outdoor collection. I think I'll pick up a striped tray or two :)

  22. We used the same Hemnes dresser as a changing table. A regular changing bad fits on it fine. (Technically, ours was the wider one with more drawers, but same depth).

We also had that same day bed. Word of slight warning on that: it looks super cute and day-bed-y in the store, BUT, if you get two mattresses (one to use for the pull-out part trundle to turn it from twin to king guest bed) then there is barely any space between the top of the mattresses and the top rail of the bed. So it looks far less like a cozy daybed. (You have to stack both mattresses on top because you can't close the trundle drawer with a mattress on it.) That's why I say we "used to" have that bed.

  24. Oh Ikea makes me so happy! We're going to be going this weekend (it's a 2 hour drive) and I'm so excited to spend some leftover Christmas money!

  25. I used the Hemnes 8 drawer with my son and the Hemnes 3 drawer with my daughter and LOVED them! The height is perfect so you don't strain your back while changing baby. With the 3 drawer, you'll have plenty of room for the changing pad and a little extra to the side for a small basket of essentials. Congrats on your pregnancy!

  26. I have the same dresser in a different color in my son's room and it functions perfectly as a changing table. The changing pad does take up the majority of the surface so what I do is keep a little basket inside the top drawer that contains all the changing "stuff" that I need like wipes, diapers, creams. I hope you love it!
