Coloring in the Lines

Good morning! How is it already Wednesday?! Considering Monday and Tuesday both consisted of twelve+ hour workdays for both me and David, I guess I shouldn't be complaining. Come on, weekend!

A few weeks ago, I read this post on The SoHo (a greaaat blog read, check it out!), which showed some beautiful pictures of color-coordinated books. Of course, my little brain started ticking and I just had to try this in my house. So... I did!

Here's my disjointed Ikea Expedit office bookshelf before the mini-overhaul.

And now, with the color-coded rainbow system.

The green books.

The red books.

The black books.

The blue books.

Don't you just love it! A quick and FREE way to add a little fun to the bookcase! It honestly just flows so much better than the unorganized, disjointed look from before. I'm super happy with the big impact we got from this quick little fix!

If you're wondering about the lovely stripes on our office walls, be sure and check out our stripe painting tutorial.

  1. LOVE IT! I have my books color coordinated as well! It looks great!

  2. It looks great! I need more books (and a big ol' bookshelf) so I can do this. I'm a cheap ol' library goer and only buy school books, which I then resale. haha. I actually really like having books around, and I'm a big ol' bookworm, so I'm not sure why I'm so bookless.

Anyway- I will stop rambling in your comments now! LOL. It looks great!

  3. I like this! Can't wait to give it a go on my bookshelves!

  4. Oh! My husband would be so NOT pleased, if I did this... he keeps our books in alphabetical order :) but I like how it looks color coordinated!

  5. so cute and fun! my husband would also not be pleased as he likes things in a certain order too :)

  6. I think I might try this on my office bookshelves - they look awful, but I need most of the items frequently. So far, I've had organized by topic: legal, writing, managerial, people skills, communications, fun, junk (lol), etc..... but it just looks like a mess.

  7. My bookcases are colorcoded and my friends think im I love it!! It looks great!

  8. I love that idea! I might have to do some rearranging over here!

  9. Wow...what a difference it makes! Love it.. Thanks for sharing!

  10. What a gorgeous bookshelf!
I am so glad you stopped by today:)

  11. That looks great. that whole room is dreamy. now you have me thinking about which books I can color coordinate! LOVE your blog

  12. Thanks so much! Let me know if any of you try it- it is such a fun little transformation! :)

  13. I just did this recently to the bookcase in my bedroom. It's not the lovely cubed shaped bookcase that you have though. I think the way you piled some of the books horizontally really makes the whole thing that much more special. Enjoy!

  14. Thanks for the shout-out! This looks fantastic! I love it!

  15. I usually never leave comments but I had to tell you THANK YOU!! I have a book shelf in my kids play room that has baskets of toys, their book, our book and pictures on it. I have never like the look of it, it always looked so mismatched and ugly to me. But I found your post of the rainbow organization of your book shelf and I used that idea to redo ours and it looks amazing and matches their playroom perfectly! Thanks for sharing your ideas!

  16. Wow - the stripes on the wall and the bookshelf look amazing! The color coordination makes such an impact. And, being a fellow attorney, I have many of those same law books on my shelves too!

  17. I LOVE the stripes on the wall. I would have never thought to color code the bookcase that way but what a difference it made. Gotta love free mini makeovers!!

Thanks for stopping by! I'd love to hear what you think. I ♥ comments.
