E-Design for Nicole

Hi friends!! I'm excited to share another E-Design with all of you. Nicole asked if I could help her set up a design for her large living room/office area. She had a few items she wanted to keep in the room, including two brand new pillows that she had purchased from Pier 1. So, I based the room off of this pillow.
Here are some current shots of the room.

And here is the design that I came up with.

1- Fresh Fabrics- The colorful floral patterned fabric can easily be used to create some new artwork on the entryway wall. Nicole can simply cover the three canvases that are currently on the wall, stretching the fabric across the prints and using a staple gun to attach. The accompanying gray chevron fabric can be used to re-cover the top of the bench in the entryway.

2- Crisp, White Paint- I told Nicole to paint it allll white, girl! While gorgeous, it would look great if all of the natural oak colors went a bright, glossy white. This will really freshen up the room in a simple way. I told her to go aahead and break out the Behr white paint + primer for all of her trim, the inside of her front door and the TV stand.

3- Colorful Rug- This adorable jute rug from World Market will not only give the room a fun punch of that gorgeous turquoise color, but its material will stand up to the high traffic we normally see in living rooms (especially with two little ones, like Nicole!). My favorite part is that it's super inexpensive at only $150.

4- Comfy Couch- Typically I wouldn't recommend the more expensive Pottery Barn brand (especially with so many cheapie knock offs available!), but I have to say that this couch rocks. Definitely worth the splurge (although, just a heads up, it is on sale right now!). The light gray PB Comfort is gorgeous, comfortable and its incredible twill slipcover will stand up against all kinds of stains! (Trust me, I know- we have had our PB Comfort for just over a year now and it has defeated puppy dog hair, muddy paw prints and red wine!). And the light gray color will fit right in with the color scheme.

5- Gray & Blue Paint- The darker gray (Mindful Grey, Sherwin Williams) is perfect for the walls, to replace the current beige color. The lighter gray (Snowbound, Sherwin Williams) is a wonderful, light accent (very similar to the couch color) for some of your furniture while the turquoise paint sample (Holiday Turquoise, Sherwin Williams) is a bright accent color. Either color (in fact, both together would be great!) could be used to paint any of the accent furniture, such as the TV stand, entryway bench, the console table or the storage chest next to the fireplace.

6- Hardwood Floors- A darker, rich color will be such a great choice to tie in with the fresh, new look! Nicole already has plans to redo the flooring in this room.

7- Frame Gallery Wall- These frames are the Ikea Ribba frames. A beautiful gallery with 6-8 of these frames (filled with black and white family photos!) would be perfect along the wall above the console table, especially since it's the first wall you see as soon as you walk into the house. That way everyone can see Nicole's beautiful family, front and center!

8- Funky Pillows- All we need with the inspirational Pier 1 pillows are some solid-colored accent pillows, like these Crate and Barrel finds.

9- Glossy White Coffee Table- Continuing with the "freshen and lighten up" theme, this pretty coffee table is a steal from Ikea.

10- Pretty Accessories- The vases Nicole already has are perfect for her mantle! They work great with the white + colorful new design of the room.

11- Turquoise Side Chairs- Since I chose a comfy, neutral couch, I thought that these slightly-modern-yet-still-casual side chairs would be another delicious pop of color!

12- Parsons Chair Slip Cover- Even though the office is technically another room, I treated it as an extension of the living room and, thus, an extension of the living room's design. A white, comfortable slipcover would be a cost-efficient way to change the current leather Parsons chair and make it a little bit lighter and brighter.

13- Turquoise Office Rug- More color, more comfort. This inexpensive Overstock rug brings both to the office area.

14- Mirror- Nothing breathes more life, energy and sparkle into a room than a mirror. By placing this large mirror over the fireplace, it will open up this large room even more.

15- Crisp, White Paint- Just like number two above: white paint, white paint and more white paint! Or the paints I discussed in number 5, of course.

16- Light & Breezy Pendant- This basket weave pendant light brings a little fun into the office area, replacing the current traditional lighting with something a little bit funkier.

17- Expedit Shelf and Desk- I don't think anyone could combine style + function any better than the Ikea Expedit book shelf. Nicole can line her belongings on the shelves or throw them in baskets that fit into the shelves- either way, it's genius! Add the Expedit desk to the unit and, voila! You've got a perfect, functional office space area.

I also did a layout plan for Nicole, where I showed her some ideas and arrangements for the furniture and decor.

Whatcha think? Nicole loves it and I can't wait to see this amazing room transform!
