Our New Double Layer Rugs in the Living Room

One of my favorite ways to make a big change in a rental house is to switch up the rugs. Our rental house has some crazy orange toned hardwood floors (although I cannot complain... even odd colored hardwoods are better than gross carpet any day!), so it's important to keep 'em covered to add some style. We have had this rug [similar style here] in the living room (of three houses!) for the past several years, and while I love it, I was ready for a change. Plus, we are in the process of moving around the furniture in our living room (more on that later, that's another post about breaking all kinds of design rules... so ignore the furniture layout for now!) and the 8x10 size was looking a little small.

A few weeks ago, RugsUSA had an 80% off sale (right now they have a 70% off sale, still not shabby), so I finally pulled the trigger. For a whopping $360 total (you read that right), I picked up two natural fiber large rugs- a 9x12 braided jute rug and a 6x9 shaggy wool rug. I've always wanted a jute rug in our living room, but was afraid to take the plunge in case it wasn't cush enough for the kids to roll around/play on. With the double layer rug, I get the best of both worlds. The large (inexpensive) jute rug  gave us the larger size we needed but the shag rug gave us the comfort. Double thumbs up for all that amazing texture going on, as well.

So far, we're happy. The braided jute rug has held up great so far with no issues (although I did notice a few pieces of sharp broken plastic imbedded throughout the rug?! major fail from the packaging department). The shag rug is shedding which doesn't really bother me (we've got Tucker dog hair I have to manage on a daily basis, so a little extra fuzz doesn't phase me) but Little Lady June freaks out when the fuzz gets on her hands. Any suggestions about how to minimize the shag rug shedding?

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase. I think the new rugs bring a fresh, modern pop to the living room. We have since moved around the furniture since the temporary set up you see here, so ignore that and stay tuned for some further living room revamp action.

Entry Update: Glossy Console Table + Vintage Rug

I recently added a few new accessories to our front door entryway to jazz things up in there. As a renter, there's not much you can change about the more permanent items in the house (unless you have a awesome landlord! But even then, it's not always worth your time or money to fix something up permanently that you won't enjoy permanently!). What I wouldn't give to paint the walls white, paint the bannisters and door black and somehow get rid of that orangey wood tone on the floors!

But, that's not happening. So I decided to add some fun accessories to really fix up the space. I used a glossy black spray paint to makeover a console table/desk that my father-in-law passed down to me. It was a pale yellow color (you can see the before pic here) which didn't really pack the punch of design like I was looking for. So, glossy black she went. And I love it!

I also added a new rug that I sourced from Everything But the House (post sponsor!). As I mentioned in this post, EBTH is a website that hosts virtual estate sales. Instead of having to drop by a creepy random house to sort through someone's for-sale stuff, you can shop these estate sales from your living room! Genius idea, am I right? I bid on this rug and won for $150, which is not bad at all for an excellent condition 3x5 vintage rug. #allthehearteyes

I'm totally digging our new entry space. I might be that awkward person with her front door open so all the neighbors can see this room and give me high fives as they walk by. What?! With the weather cooling down soon, that is so not weird. I promise.

Source list:
rug- Everything But the House
coat rack- Target, a million years ago
console table- handed down
basket- Ikea
pillow- Ikea
duck bookends- Target
books- vintage
blue and white planter- thrifted
lamp- Kirklands

A New Lulu and Georgia Rug for Little Lady June's Nursery

I am so excited to dive into more Little Lady June nursery posts with y'all! David and I have been working away on this sweet little room and it's just about done. I thought about doing a big reveal and then sharing the details... but where's the fun in that? Instead, I plan to do the reverse and share the steps we've taken along the way with a big ol' pretty pink reveal at the end.

As you know, we painted the nursery a sweet light blue color. With the walls ready to go, I attacked the floor next. In terms of what I was looking for, I knew that I wanted something pink on the floor to counter the blue walls. Specifically, some sort of graphic print. A kid-friendly rug that wasn't too kiddish. While I'm typically a big fan of soft, high pile wool rugs (especially for a kids room!), David and I decided we wanted a thinner flat weave rug to go on top of the thick carpet in the room. Ideally we'd still be on hardwood floor like our old house, but we do the best we can as renters!

So, what source can I shop from a whole bunch of gorgeous, girly pink flat weave rugs? Duh. Lulu and Georgia! L+G is one of my favorite online retailers. In fact, you may remember my lovely L+G outdoor rug that I used to spruce up our back patio last summer. I really do love me some Lulu and Georgia. They have so many beautiful decor items, especially the rugs. Like the precious polka dot rug we chose for Little Lady June's room! It's the Genevieve Gorder Dot Rug in Peony in the 5'x8' size.

The quality of the rug is amazing and I pretty much want to giggle every time I see those sweet little pink polka dots.

As I mentioned, we would normally buy a softer wool rug for a space like this, but this 100% wool flat weave is super comfortable! Seriously, HDawg was rolling around on it and playing with LLJ's toys like he was on a super soft cloud. It makes me feel so happy knowing that not only did we get a pretty rug, but we got a rug the kids will feel comfortable on, too!

This amazing rug adds the perfect layer to our sweet little girl's nursery. I'm seriously in love!

If you're as big of a fan of Lulu and Georgia as I am, you're in luck. Use the code TENJUNE20 for 20% off your order at Lulu and Georgia between now and Sunday!

It has been so much fun putting together this girly space for our soon-to-arrive little bean. I can't wait to share more!

Friday Find: A New Pottery Barn Rug

There's not much more that makes this Frugal Franny's heart race like finding a good deal. I stumbled acrosst this sweet little chenille find last week at the Pottery Barn outlet near me. A $100 rug marked down to $40 and I used a $25 gift certificate on it? Um, yes, please. Fifteen smackeroos later, I've got myself a new 3x5 light blue chenille rug. And I've already got a special place picked out for it at the new house! Woot.
